We launched a course for people expecting to get up to speed in the kitchen

The Project

Nutre tu Embarazo, roughly translated as “Nourish While Expecting” is a multidisciplinary culinary online program (in Spanish language), dedicated to people who are expecting or during the preconception moment. Midwives, nutritionists, and chefs seek to empower people in the kitchen with a focus on healthy habits, backed by up-to-date scientific evidence. The goal is to learn how to consistently create deliciousness while translating sometimes hard-to-understand nutrition guidelines.

This is a self-published and self-produced program, and the motivation behind it was our own frustrating experiences during pregnancy. While we haul over a decade of experience, be it in the kitchen or in the public healthcare system, during our own pregnancy, we realized the picture was incomplete and our proficiency in only one part of the equation wasn’t enough.

The Challenge

How might we empower people expecting through information, examples and live sessions to consistently cook nourishing, fast and delicious meals?

How we tackled it

Alignment

We aligned our visions, from our different professional experiences and our insights from expecting parents, to list the most common pains during pregnancy regarding food, nutrition & cooking.

Create

We generated a course program from a multidisciplinary perspective that would address:

  1. The physiological changes throughout pregnancy and the nutritional needs that followed these changes

  2. How to set-up in the kitchen from a culinary and a food safety point of view, to ensure deliciousness while avoiding the most common food-related diseases during pregnancy

  3. Culinary techniques and how to apply them creatively, focusing on time and money saving.

Development

We spent a lot of time recording and re-recording short, compelling, down-to-earth videos that explain how to make it all happen! This includes a lot of step-by-step video recipes so you know exactly what to look for. And we put together a hefty resource section with:

  1. A nutritional “checklist”, to be aware of how varied your food sources are each week

  2. 40+ recipe book with breakfasts, lunches/dinners & snacks

  3. Weekly menu with lots of ideas

Launch

We uploaded it to an e-learning platform, programmed monthly virtual meet-ups to discuss and answer questions and created lots of promo materials for social media!

Follow up

We designed an entry and exit poll to understand the self-stated empowerment in the kitchen of those who go through the course - we’ll publish the results.
